Inside the game, castles glitch, wizards rap, and Ribits… well… “ribit.” Battle Crown: The Legend of Princess Pink blends retro video game nostalgia with a synth-pop score in a coming-of-age story about friendship, failure, and unfinished quests. In this bold new musical adaptation of “The Scarlet Letter,” the narrative dives deep into themes of societal shame and female empowerment. Set in a Puritanical society, Hester Prynne transforms her scarlet letter from a mark of condemnation into a symbol of defiance and resilience. Through evocative folk music played by an all-female band, the musical explores Hester’s journey of reclaiming her identity and raising her daughter amidst judgment and oppression. Sell Me Yesterday introduces us to a world where “living in the past” isn’t simply a figure of speech– it’s a literal possibility. Thanks to a drug called Nemo, users are able to relive their happiest memories. Perhaps it’s the intimate connection of an old relationship. Maybe it’s the precious times spent with lost loved ones, or even the simplicity of childhood. With shades of a reverse “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” meets “Severance” with a little bit of “Breaking Bad” thrown in, Sell Me Yesterday features a dynamic contemporary rock score and explores the ways in which memory is an ever-shifting, unreliable force shaped by our tendencies to romanticize the past when we’re unhappy in the present.
